LAURA NYRO No one ever did this better than Laura Nyro but one day she decided that she had to go (as she mentioned in a song) Eli was coming and she was gone but I am considering the middle of her life the quiet hidden music of NYRO the housewife the subtle secret songs she orchestrated in her head as she folded childrens' clothes or made up the bed I have written songs in dreams, asleep waking suddenly the music fades away nothing to hold no note to keep the secret subtle silence of the waking day I saw Laura Nyro just before she died the ageing poetry could not finally be denied but she played an electric keyboard... songs I didn't know opening for someone I don't recall; some trivial show But it was HER voice,, her vision, and her passion (all of which by then had fallen out of fashion) besides me I'm not sure anyone knew who was singing like LAURA NYRO in that little room I have written songs in dreams, asleep waking suddenly the music fades away nothing to hold no note to keep the secret subtle silence of the waking day
